LETTERS OF THE WEEK:
Ff, Gg, Hh, & Ii
SCIENCE:
- “The 5 Senses” (This science unit will carry into December)
Many of the activities should revolve around the pumpkin and Thanksgiving foods.
Week 1 – SMELL
Week 2 – TASTE
Week 3 - TOUCH (ex: inside the pumpkin, the feely box)
Week 4 - SOUND (“sounds are all around us”)
Week 5 – SIGHT (have children describe what they see related to Thanksgiving)
- Pumpkin Science – dissect a pumpkin, weigh and measure, compare sizes
CONCEPTS:
“Things that go together and Things that don’t belong”
Use the manipulatives and the felt board
Mixing Colors: mix red & yellow = orange (can you name things that are orange, go on an orange hunt, make an orange collage, etc.)
NUMBER 3 & 4 (felt board, manipulatives, dot #3, #3 books)
SHAPE – TRIANGLE (3 sides – see packet)
MUSIC – Thanksgiving songs, music & movement activities
CRAFTS
collage turkey, pies, corn, turkey/pilgrim, tee-pee, parade costumes, thankful feathers, leaf wreath, we are thankful for, leaf painting
GAMES:
Gross motor activities
What’s missing – use Thanksgiving shapes and items

MATH &MATH CONCEPTS
Our math program, “Go Math” a Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Common Core edition program will be incorporated along with our hands-on activities and many other math concepts
We use the “10 Frame”
- Hands on 10 frames
- 10 frame & worksheet showing different ways to understand number concepts
- Sorting and Classifying
- one to one correspondence Example: acorns to squirrels, pilgrims to Native Americans, feathers to turkeys, more/less/equal to
- Graphing – Example: family, who do we live with? mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, grandpa, aunt, pets
- Patterning – Example: turkey, pumpkin, pilgrim, etc.
- Sequencing- Example: from seed to pumpkin, sequencing sheet
Numbers 3, 4 & 5 cut & paste sheet, putting a set of 3 together and take it apart (adding and subtracting), use manipulates, and appropriate worksheets from “Go Math”
